Here is a quick sketch to get the concept down. I ended up flipping the canvas and extending it. The fish also was flipped.

Created during show watching dancers perform. Used for created a character design for client that wanted “melancholic ballerina”

On the left is the rough shape language that was to be used. Also the color idea. When going to final, the intense light source was more resolved and additional values were added to make the pencil and background objects ‘pop’.
